Our Collections

The Association is developing its collections on the basis of Chinese historical documents preserved in Europe. Its work includes the discovery, acquisition, cataloguing, conservation and digitisation of books, manuscripts, letters, archival materials, travel accounts, missionary records, maps, images and other valuable historical sources.

The collections focus particularly on European publications and documents relating to China from the seventeenth century onwards. These materials record the long history of Europe’s observation, understanding and study of China, and bear important witness to cultural exchange between China and Europe.

The Association will gradually compile and publish its collection catalogue. Selected documents of particular historical and scholarly value will also be digitised, researched, translated and published, providing source materials for cooperation with scholars, libraries, museums, universities and publishing institutions.
